Remarkably, 30 people, consisting of 16 Israeli residents and 14 Thai agricultural workers, managed to hide from the attackers for three days until their rescue on Monday night.

Moshav Talmei Yosef is located in Hevel Shalom, opposite Rafiah in the Gaza Strip. The Moshav is home to 90 families, some of whom are engaged in agriculture, while others are not. On Saturday, 7/10/23, the residents woke up to alarm sounds. The extent of the attack became clear very quickly when two vans full of terrorists arrived at the Moshav gate. The reserve unit soldiers did not give up and did not run away, even though they knew that they might not come out alive. Most of the moshav's residents evacuated the next afternoon in a secured convoy to different places in the country, and they have been there ever since.

On Saturday, October 7th 2023, on the Simchat Torah holiday, a heroic battle took place between Zikim's Emergency Civil Squad and the Hamas terrorists. A huge disastrous catastrophe was prevented and the terrorists were all eliminated. Since then, there have been dozens of penetration attempts that were stopped at the fence, thanks to Israeli soldiers and Zikim's Emergency Civil Squad.
At the same time many rockets are falling inside Zikim, causing severe damage to buildings, cars and equipment. Luckily and miraculously we have only a few injured. The Kibbutz has been evacuated, but we continue to run the critical systems such as looking after our large dairy farm.
When this war ends, we will face the challenge of reconstructing and repairing the physical and material damage as well as healing the psychological trauma. We will need to rebuild our community and convince our members to stay in Zikim and continue life in our beautiful beloved Kibbutz. Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 6:30 AM, a massive rocket barrage began on Kibbutzes and cities adjacent to the Gaza border. With great resourcefulness and tenacity, the kibbutz's emergency preparedness squad deployed to positions just minutes before the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the kibbutz. The first two members of the squad reached the high observation post. After identifying two trucks on the road leading to the kibbutz, they contacted the operations room and requested permission to fire. When it was confirmed that these were not Israel Defense Forces (IDF), permission was granted, and the two opened fire on the terrorists. A fierce gun battle ensued. Simultaneously, the emergency preparedness squad of Kibbutz Or Haner was mobilized to assist the small force fighting at Erez. This assistance made it possible to continue the fighting while evacuating the wounded to a safe area. The fighting lasted for three hours.

However, it was also a morning marked by courage, heroism, and miracles. At 06:30 in the morning, our day began with the jarring sound of alarms and explosions. Many families had spent the night at a community campsite in the olive grove, a peaceful interlude that was abruptly interrupted that morning. Swiftly, they jumped into their vehicles and raced back to their homes, navigating through falling Qassems and the widespread destruction. Had they delayed by just another 10 minutes, they might have fallen victim to the murderous terrorists who were en route to the kibbutz.

Starting in the early morning hours of Black Saturday, October 7, 2023, with the first rocket barrage launched from the Gaza Strip, Moshav Yated was plunged into darkness as the electricity supply was cut off.
This left 170 households in the moshav barricaded in darkness, including families with children, the elderly, foreign workers, and all residents without exception. They remained confined within their shelters, unable to contact the outside world due to the power outage, which disrupted internet lines and hindered communication with security forces.
